Azenhas do Mar is small and white, built into a cliff on the Sintra coast. The houses fall in terraces towards the water. At the bottom, a natural pool fills with the tide and the restaurant on the rocks stands beside it. Above them, a viewpoint holds the whole village in one frame.
Villa Tamar sits on the quiet upper street, a short walk from that viewpoint and 500 m from the beach. It is a private house for two, with a 500 m² garden and an infinity pool facing open water.
Azenhas do Mar beach is a 500 m walk down, and the same walk back up. Praia das Maçãs, a kilometre south, is the wider sand with a small resort town behind it. Praia Grande, two kilometres on, is the long one, open to the swell.
Restaurante Azenhas do Mar sits on the rocks beside the ocean pool. A Adega das Azenhas is in the village itself. Further south, Restaurante da Adraga stands at the end of the road down to its own beach. A longer list waits in the house.
The village belongs to Colares, the parish whose vines grow in sand close to the sea. Sintra old town, its palaces and the forest that holds them, is 15 minutes by car. Lisbon is 40. More of the coast and the day trips.
